The recent discovery of a puppy farm which housed close to 100 animals in particularly poor conditions is only one of many such likely cases nationwide, ETV news show 'Aktuaalne kaamera' (AK) reported Saturday night. These particular dogs are, however, likely to be rehoused with new owners in the near future.

In a farm in southern Estonia, a sad sight met the animal rescue group. Larger and smaller dogs had accumulated over the years and the elderly owner, who lived alone with the dogs, had also distributed the puppies. The last eight dogs went to Põlva. There were 15 dogs still left at his home, however, and the situation had simply gotten out of control.

Zorik was never the tail-wagging or hand-licking type. But that didn’t stop the free-spirited vagabond dog from winning many hearts. When the black-and-white mutt, long a presence in a Tallinn neighborhood, was taken from the Estonian capital to the countryside earlier this year to live out his days in the safe and restful surroundings of a family’s back yard, he was missed so much that the residents immortalized him with a statue.
